Singapore aims to sustainably produce 30% of the nation's nutritional needs by 2030, up from only 10% now. With majority of our food imported, increasing local production helps increase food resilience. Beyond food security, it also reduces carbon emissions attributed to importation.
The Smart Farm at HMGICS showcases a future where crops can be cultivated in urban environments within land-scarce Singapore. Through robotics and automation, a traditionally labour-intensive industry can be revolutionized completely. This is not science fiction, this could be the future.
